Effects of Immigration on Health Insurance Status of Natives Yuriy O. Pylypchuk Social and Scientific Systems August 6, 2008 Abstract: In a time of rising health care costs, declining health insurance rates, and constantly changing immigration policy, it is important to know whether changes in immigrant labor supply affected the health insurance status of natives. The objective of this paper is to estimate the effects of immigration on natives' probability of being offered, eligible for, and a policy-holder of health insurance. Our main results indicate the effects of the labor-force share of all immigrants and of immigrant non-citizens on offer are very small and not significantly different from zero. Immigrants reduce probability of being eligible and a holder of health insurance, especially among women. We find a small and significantly negative effect of the labor-force share of immigrant citizens on natives' probability of being offered, eligible for, and a policy-holder of health insurance. However, all results are very small with elasticity between 0.01-0.02. Non-citizen immigrants do not significantly affect insurance status of natives. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/Delivery.cfm/SSRN_ID1250302_code497314.pdf?abstractid=1250302&mirid=2
