Rs 4,000 in fake currency notes recd in banks in dist Sep 20,2010
Madurai, Sept 20 (PTI): Fake currency notes with a face value of Rs 4,000 have been received by RBI from various nationalised banks in the district, according to a top bank As many as 20 notes of Rs 100 denomination and four of Rs 500 denomination were received during the remittance by banks in the last one week, police said, quoting Nageswara Rao, RBI Assistant General Manager(Chennai circle). They said 200 complaints have been received so far about payment of fake notes made by Nationalised banks. "All cases registered over the years come under the head "Impossible-to-Investigate",said an official. Meanwhile a private bank today complained that it received fake notes with a face value of Rs 75,000. Police said it was possible to trace the culprits with the help of account numbers as the bank had a good system of receiving the money in sealed envelopes.
