Woman accused of bank fraud turns herself in to police
Police said a woman wanted on suspected bank fraud has turned herself in to authorities.
The Port Allen Police Department reported Angel Banks of Baton Rouge surrendered Monday night.
According to police, Banks walked into the West Baton Rouge Federal Credit Union on March 22 and deposited a counterfeit cashier’s check for $1997.55. She allegedly also withdrew more than 90 percent of the deposited money and spent the rest of it with her debit card attached to the account.
The credit union filed charges against Banks after they sent her a notice and did not get a response.
Police said when they contacted Banks, she claimed she had been scammed and wired money to the scammers through Western Union. An investigation found her claim was not true.
Banks is charged with one count of bank fraud.
