Brief Amicus Curiae of the ACLU in Support of Respondent in the Case of Van De Kamp v. Goldstein, (U.S. Sept. 4, 2008) (No. 07-854) Alexandra Natapoff Loyola Law School Los Angeles Loyola-LA Legal Studies Paper No. 2008-31 Abstract: This amicus brief was submitted on behalf of exoneree Thomas Goldstein who was wrongfully convicted based on the testimony of a jailhouse snitch. The Supreme Court will be considering the question of whether the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office has absolute or qualified immunity in the face of its failure to maintain a system to keep track of and disclose its use of such informants. The brief describes the systemic and largely undocumented use of criminal informants and argues that prosecutorial maintenance of such data systems is integral to due process. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/Delivery.cfm/SSRN_ID1289349_code332621.pdf?abstractid=1289349&mirid=5
