The preparations for Mozambique to join the Kimberley process of diamond certification are nearing completion, and the relevant documentation should be submitted to the United Nations General Assembly by December, according to the Minister of Mineral Resources, Esperanca Bias from June 13, 2011.

The government issued 40 diamond permits to 21 companies and six individuals,.
Mozambique has recently received criticism for allowing Marange diamonds to be illegally traded in Manica and Chimoio, two towns near the border with Zimbabwe.
Certification usually takes place within 1 to 2 years, since Mozambique has a history of slow movement on the issue, I would assume 2 years would be fast.
