KRA Commissioner-General, Michael Waweru said though the authority valued friendliness when dealing with compliant taxpayers, it would be tough on wayward tax evaders.
"Like a bee, we are ready to use the full force of the law or sting to get tax evaders to comply," he said.
Waweru said the Authority would continue with reforms started in 2004 to become a modern and fully integrated revenue administration to ensure easy tax compliance.
He was speaking when KRA received ISO 9001:2000 at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC), Nairobi, on Monday.
He said the certification was a result of the authority’s effective documentation, implementation and maintenance of high levels of quality management.
Vice-President, Kalonzo Musyoka presided over the ceremony, which also saw the launch of KRA Taxpayers’ Charter, Road Transport Department Service Charter and unveiling of the Authority’s new corporate identity.
Better results
Waweru described the award as a significant accomplishment in the Authority’s operations and expressed determination to yield better results.
Kalonzo lauded KRA for the award. He said it reflected the impact of the Government’s reform agenda since 2003.
The Vice-President, who is also the Leader of Government Business in Parliament, said contrary to the belief among Kenyans, MPs were ready to pay taxes.
