Foreign Affiliates in Japan: Entry, Industry Presence, Performance, and Strategy Abraham Stefanidis Spoudai, Vol. 56, No. 1, pp. 25-38, 2006 Abstract: An inquiry into the progress foreign affiliates have made in cracking the Japanese market, this paper finds that foreign affiliates are present in every sector of the Japanese economy, especially in manufacturing. Profit margins of foreign affiliates surpassed those of domestic corporations. Adapting to the conditions of the local market, developing new products, and promoting them aggressively is the three-fold strategy which accounts for the success of foreign affiliates in the Japanese market. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=1023473
