Venezuelan Ambassador to UN Denounces Campaign.
United Nations, Oct 23 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela''s ambassador to UN, Rafael Ramirez, denounced the resurgence of the smear campaign against the South American country and its leaders, in response to accusations of corruption in a US newspaper. "It's a disgrace, an accumulation of lies and manipulations, which is part of the new phase of the campaign against Venezuela, its government and its Revolution," he told reporters here about an article published yesterday by The Wall Street Journal.
According to the diplomat, former Foreign Minister and former Minister of Energy and Petroleum, the cruzade aims to officials with high responsibilities and connected with the late President Hugo Chavez.
According to the newspaper, US officials shared information about the possibility of "looting of billions of dollars of Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA)" for alleged acts of bribery and money laundering.
"I have my conscience clear, from what has Bolivarian Revolution achieved for the people, and one of its main achievements has been to recover the oil industry, previously in the hands of transnationals who plundered resources," said the also former president of PDVSA.
Ramirez said that these attacks develop and generate powerful enemies.
"Orchestrators of this operation, are the same people who a few months ago attacked other Venezuelan leaders, including the president of the National Assembly, Diosdado Cabello, whom he accused of involvement in drug trafficking," he explained.
For the Ambassador, the intention of the campaign would be to isolate and paralyze the work of leaders of the South American state.
"But you should know, instead of neutralize or affect us, this leads us to reinforce the work," he said
