Munich Prosecutors Appeal Deutsche Bank Fraud Acquittals By: Karin Matussek
Munich prosecutors filed an appeal against Monday’s acquittals of Deutsche Bank AG co-Chief Executive Officer Juergen Fitschen and four former bank officials from attempted-fraud charges. The procedural step ensures that prosecutors met a one-week deadline for filing the paperwork, Munich prosecutors’ spokesman Thomas Steinkraus-Koch said in an e-mail Tuesday. The prosecutors’ office will only make a final decision on whether to pursue full appeals after the court issues a written version of the judgement, Steinkraus-Koch said. The allegations against defendants including former CEOs Josef Ackermann and Rolf Breuer weren’t backed by the evidence, the judges had found Monday after a trial that lasted almost a year. Deutsche Bank spokesman Armin Niedermeier declined to comment.
